Scorecard Users in AZ
Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP), a strategy of the Arizona Department of Health Services, is offered through the Maricopa County Department of Public Health as a community benefit – all at no cost!
What makes us different?
We are not a wellness vendor or employee health insurance provider. As the state’s most-trusted resource for building evidence-based healthy workplaces, we strive to improve the health and well-being of all Arizona workers by offering employers and employee wellness professionals evidenced based training, tools, and step-by-step resources employers can use to tailor a workplace health program to their unique workplace needs.
Developed by an expert panel of representatives from the federal, state, academic, and private sector, HAWP uses the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Worksite Health Score Card as the foundational resource and framework. Just as our worksites and employee environments continue to evolve over time the scorecard incorporates new data and evidence-based approaches to offer reliable insight into workplace health.
Background & History
Evidence-based healthy worksite initiatives have been shown to reduce costs associated with health care, absenteeism and presenteeism. In addition, they have been linked to increased productivity as healthy employees have been shown to be more productive.
Identified as part of the 2013 Arizona State Health Improvement Plan, workplace health and wellness became a priority for public health officials. The Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health have since managed the program offering all services fully funded to Arizona employers.
HAWP relies on several state-wide partnerships to sustain its fully funded training, technical assistance, tools, and resources offered to Arizona employers. We appreciate each of these partners’ unique expertise and value they provide. Interested in partnering with HAWP? Contact us today.
We’ve got the Answers
The Healthy Arizona Worksites Program (HAWP) provides free training, tools and resources to help businesses support employee health and wellness. By participating in HAWP, employers will learn how to implement evidence-based, comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives to support the health of their employees, their businesses, and the communities in which they live and operate. Additionally, by participating in HAWP, employers have the opportunity to share their worksite wellness experiences and learn from each other.
The Healthy Arizona Worksite Award recognizes employers for their efforts to support employee health and wellness. There are three levels of the award: Copper, Silver and Gold. Each level of the award requires employers to attend the HAWP 101 training, obtain a letter of leadership support for worksite wellness, complete the CDC Worksite Health Sccorecard, and write a worksite health improvement plan. The higher levels of the award- Silver and Gold- require implementation of additional worksite wellness initiatives. To receive the Gold level of the Healthy Arizona Worksite Award, employers must be evaluating their initiatives.
The Healthy Arizona Worksites Program is a statewide public health initiative offered through a partnership between the Arizona Department of Health Services and the Maricopa County Department of Public Health.
Employers that attend the Healthy Arizona Worksites Program 101 training receive tools and resources to help them develop worksite wellness initiatives that meet the needs of their employees and businesses. In addition to the materials that are presented at the HAWP 101 training, HAWP program participants will receive access to toolkits that will help them create a worksite health improvement plan (Toolkit access is provided after an employer attends the HAWP 101 training.). Completing the HAWP 101 training also is the first step to being able to apply for the Healthy Arizona Worksite Award.
There currently are two versions of the HAWP 101 training. One lasts for 6 hours and the other is a 4.5 hour class. Please see the event calendar for upcoming training dates.
There is no cost for employers to participate in the Healthy Arizona Worksites Program.
HAWP has been designed for small, medium and large employers.
Although the HAWP 101 training is not currently offered via webinar, HAWP offers webinars on a variety of additional topics to support employee health and wellness. Some examples of past webinars include Leading with People: How Lincoln Industries Succeeds at Worksite Wellness and Champion Skills for Wellness Cultures. Please check the event calendar for upcoming webinars.

You’re in Good Company
It seems like a simple concept, but if we can appeal to one person through Financial Wellness, another through Physical Wellness and a third through Emotional Wellness, then overall we will have a healthier and happier workforce, and see the ROI. In 2013, we positively impacted 88% of our workforce through participation in one or more of our wellness offerings.
