Compassion comes from a place of deep love and caring. In an age where there is so much to care about and so many people to care for, it can be easy to get overwhelmed or fatigued from this caring. This feeling of compassion fatigue is often onset by forgetting to take care of ourselves in the process of caring for others. In this interactive session, Hanna Layton from ASU’s Center for Mindfulness, Compassion and Resilience will provide insight on the experience of compassion fatigue, and provide mindfulness-based interventions and practices that can help prevent or actively manage the fatigue.
About our speaker:
Hanna Layton is a recent graduate from ASU’s Masters of Sustainable Solutions program. As a sustainability scientist she is particularly interested in human well-being, focusing on the intersection of mindfulness and sustainability.
Hanna is employed by ASU’s Center for Mindfulness, Compassion and Resilience as the Management Intern. In this role she serves to foster a more compassionate and connected student body at ASU. She acts as a liaison between student organizations and the Center to spread mindfulness through program coordination, planning events and leading practices that students can apply to their daily lives. Her ultimate goal in this role is to help communities manage daily stresses through mindfulness-based practices so that they can build their resilience and equitable wellness capacities.
