Cancer in the Workplace

Presentation description:

Finding out you or an employee is diagnosed with cancer can be difficult for anyone. Knowing how to navigate conversations with HR and the employee can be critical to the organization’s continued operations as well as the employee’s health. Many find they can work during cancer treatment, but there are others who find it difficult to continue their employment.

This webinar is an engaging conversation with Laurie Mann, LCSW, Social Worker with the Cancer Center at Dignity Health, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Larita Howard, Human Resources Manager, also Dignity Health as they share best practices for supporting employees undergoing cancer treatment.

Session participants will learn about:

  • Common employee concerns – job security, privacy, health benefits, etc.
  • Reasonable accommodations best practices
  • Complying with Employment Law during and after treatment
  • Tips for sharing the news with supervisor and colleagues
  • How to offer employee emotional support during treatment
  • What can employers do to help employees facing cancer
  • Supporting managers/supervisors and colleagues
