Screening is our best defense against most cancers and definitely against colon cancer. Getting a colonoscopy is quick, painless, and in most cases, covered by your insurance. Employers are in a unique position to encourage colon cancer screening and education which can result in saving many lives.
This webinar is a discussion with Dr. Anathea Powell, Colon and Rectal Surgeon, with Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center as she shares life-saving information on colon cancer screening and treatment options.

The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center
Dr. Powell’s expertise includes all colon, rectal and anal conditions, including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, hemorrhoids, and other anal problems. She is trained in endoscopy, laparoscopic and robotic surgery, as well as transanal surgery. She is board certified in general surgery. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Colon and Rectal Surgeons.
Dr. Powell received her medical degree from Boston University. She completed her general surgery residency at New York University and her colon and rectal surgery fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School. She also completed a combined clinical and research fellowship in surgical oncology at the National Cancer Institute. Following her general surgery residency, she spent four years as a general surgeon for the Indian Health Service and has a longstanding commitment to the underserved.
Dr. Powell believes that high quality, technologically advanced, and patient-centered surgical care should be available to all patients. She believes in a multidisciplinary, team-based approach that focuses on the patient’s unique needs and goals in the development of a treatment plan.
