The power of stem cell therapy and other emerging therapies are rapidly developing in the field of cancer treatment, but what is a stem cell really and what do they do? We know they can repair bone and possible cure cancer, but how?

In this two-part discussion Dr. Murali Kodali, oncology specialist in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy with the University of Arizona Cancer Center at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center will explain this very complex and rapidly growing treatment approach in an easy to understand way.

Murali Kodali, MD
Hematologic Oncologist and Stem Cell Transplant Specialist
The University of Arizona Cancer Center at Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center

Dr. Kodali’s expertise includes leukemias (acute and chronic), lymphomas, acquired bone marrow disorders, multiple myeloma, myeloproliferative neoplasms, allogeneic and autologous stem cell transplantation, and cellular therapy. He is board certified in hematology and medical oncology, and is a member of American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, and American Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation.

Dr. Kodali completed medical school in India and residency training in Internal Medicine in Chicago. He completed his fellowship training in hematology-oncology at Washington University, St. Louis and University of Missouri, and advanced training in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy at Stanford University.

Dr. Kodali believes in treating each individual patient with personalized attention and a focus on the overall patient, not just the disease. He believes compassionate, multi-disciplinary support is essential to care for a patient diagnosed with a hematologic malignancy.
