Shyamal Patel, MD, Radiation Oncologist with Dignity Health Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Shyamal Patel is a radiation oncologist at the Dignity Health – Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. He is board-certified in radiation oncology and has clinical expertise in brachytherapy.

Dr. Patel received his medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He completed his internship in medicine at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and subsequently his residency in radiation oncology at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. He then completed his fellowship in brachytherapy at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Patel’s expertise includes the management and treatment of genitourinary cancer, skin cancer, and sarcomas. His extensive training in ultrasound-guided high-dose-rate brachytherapy provides him with a unique way to treat newly diagnosed and recurrent prostate cancers as well as complex locally advanced gynecologic cancers. He also offers a less invasive but highly effective modality of treatment for squamous cell and basal cell carcinomas of the skin. Overall, Dr. Patel strongly believes in providing his patients with all potential treatment options and tailoring his treatment recommendations to the patient within a context of evidence-based medicine.
