Prevention and Screening for Head and Neck Cancers

Is there a screening physical exam for head and neck cancers? Should I see my dentist, ENT or PCP? Where could cancer occur in the head and neck region? Is it the sinus cavity, skull, sinuses or mouth? These are some of the questions we answer in this webinar.

Session participants will understand:

  • What is head and neck cancer and areas within the scope of the disease
  • What are the common symptoms and treatment for head and neck cancers
  • Common risk factors for head and neck cancers, including the increasing incidence rates for human papillomavirus (HPV) related head and neck cancers
  • Why alcohol use and smoking poses increased risk for head and neck cancer
  • What tests are available for HPV
  • How employers can support employees facing head and neck cancer

Presenter:

Chenthilmurugan Rathnasabapathy, MD, Thoracic and Head & Neck Medical Oncologist with Dignity Health Cancer Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.

Chenthilmurugan Rathnasabapathy, MD is a board-certified physician in internal medicine, subspecializing in hematology/oncology and has been practicing hematology/oncology for 10 years. His interests include benign, malignant hematology and solid tumor oncology. Dr. Rathnasabapathy focuses primarily on diagnostic and chemotherapeutic treatment as well as in clinical research. Other expertise includes lung, colon, stomach, pancreatic, bladder and prostate cancers and hematological malignancies such as myeloma, lymphoma malignancies.

Dr. Rathnasabapathy received his undergraduate medical degree from University of Madras, India and pursued research activities with National Institutes of Health working for perinatology research branch of National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development. Then he went on to pursue residency training in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology and oncology at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Strong communication with his patients is important to him. He strives to explain their medical condition, discuss their treatment options and answer their questions in plain language. He wants no patient to leave thinking they were rushed through their visit.
