Arizonans face unique extreme weather challenges from extreme heat, flooding, drought, dust storms, wildfires, and winter storms. These extreme weather events are expected to become more frequent and severe in the future. This webinar will discuss how these extreme weather events create occupational hazards, describe the most prevalent challenges for Arizona businesses, and describe local resources and interventions that businesses can use. This information is aimed at helping improve employee health for these challenges as well as have a safer and more productive work environment.

Session participants will learn about:

  • Impacts of weather hazards on human health and the problems associated with it
  • Interventions and local resources businesses can use to mitigate the long term effects

Carmen Tirdea, MPH
Epidemiologist
Arizona Department of Health Services

Carmen Tirdea is an Epidemiologist with the Arizona Department of Health Services, Office of Environmental Health. She has a MPH from the University of Arizona. Carmen works with different programs within the Office of Environmental Health including the Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program, Climate and Health Program, and Environmental Public Health Tracking Program. Her main role includes supervising and planning program evaluation projects, designing, manipulating, and using databases for evaluation of health problems, and providing scientific and technical assistance to communities and outside partners.
